What is gematria?

gematria is a practice of assigning numerical values to words, symbols, or phrases in order to discover hidden meaning within texts. Gematria has been used for centuries across many different religions, cultures and languages to uncover the mysteries and secrets of ancient texts.

Gematria is based on assigning numerical equivalents to different letters of the alphabet. Each letter is given a specific value so that when words or phrases are spelled out their numerical values can be calculated. The numerical value of words or phrases can then be compared with one another in search of deeper meaning. Different methods of calculation exist depending on which language or system being used, including Hebrew gematria, Greek gematria, Jewish gematria and Latin gematria.

In Jewish tradition there are various interpretations for interpreting Gematria calculations. Often the result will have an association with a religious figure such as a saint or prophet, but the interpretation can vary depending on context. For example, one could use Gematia to calculate the numerical equivalent of 'Moses' which amounts to 345 — this could be interpreted as referring to Moses' age when he died (120) plus 225 years between Moses' time and today). In some cases Gemaria may also be used to unlock Biblical prophecies or find spiritual truths within sacred texts.

Beyond religious applications, Gemaria has more recently been used in modern secular society — often times as a tool within spiritual growth practices such as numerology & tarot reading — where its inner wisdom accessed through its application suggests potential courses or paths one might take goals can be achieved in life.
